WINS's four Thrift Stores are, in many ways, communities unto themselves.
Staff, volunteers and customers come together, nurture friendships, and shop for needed items from amongst racks and shelves laden with quality, affordable clothing, small housewares, and furniture
With the current economic times, the Thrift Stores have seen more "new faces", a sign that the stores have become and even more important community resource helping ease the growing financial pressures faced by more and more Calgary families.
As a social enterprise, WINS Thrift Stores serve another important function. They provide many entry level employment opportunities to those with no or limited work experience, those with no employment skills, those returning to the workforce, and those needing Canadian work experience.
While earning a steady income within a nurturing work environment, staff get on-the-job skills training. This leads to the formation of support networks and increased confidence of employees, which help them use this work experience as a stepping stone to achieving their bigger life goals.
Through the generous donations of corporate and individual donors, WINS Thrifts Stores supply the goods needed for clients of the
Free Goods Referral Program.
All revenues generated through the stores support WINS and its programs and services in the community.
